The school which was in the news for a viral video showing alleged bullying in the classroom has a new head.

In a statement on Wednesday, Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) announced it was appointing N Sivarajan to replace Chia Hai Siang as principal of Shuqun Secondary School.

Sivarajan, who is appointed principal-designate from Thursday, is the former vice-principal of Northland Secondary School.

The move was part of 62 principals appointed by the MOE in 2015. Sivarajan is one of 21 newly-appointed principals.

“The process of systematically appointing and rotating Principals allows schools to benefit from the infusion of fresh perspectives and enables experienced Principals to share best practices in support of ‘Every School, a Good School’,” the MOE said.

Chia would be pursuing his postgraduate studies, the MOE said.

A 52-second video uploaded to the Facebook page of All Singapore Stuff in September showed one boy slapping another on his head and then hitting him and another student with a book. Another student could be seen dancing on a table.

After the video went viral, Shuqun Secondary said it took disciplinary action and counselled those involved.

The mother of one of the victims later made a police report.
