Singapore Airlines announced on Tuesday that it will be the title sponsor for this year’s Formula One night race happening from 19 to 21 September at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

The local carrier has signed a two-year agreement with Formula One, according to CEO Goh Choon Phong during a media briefing. The sponsoring amount is "confidential" and cannot be disclosed, he added.

In a media release, Singapore Grand Prix's Ong Beng Seng said the "synergistic partnership" between SIA and Formula One will provide the "widest exposure" and "fantastic opportunities" in promoting both Singapore and the night race to the world.

Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone said he is happy to have SIA join the Formula One family.

SIA first made the announcement via two full-page advertisements in The Straits Times on the same day.

On the first page it said there will be a new name on the track this year, while the second announced the “2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Grand Prix”.

Local telco SingTel has been the title sponsor since the race kicked off in Singapore in 2008.
