Singapore detects 19 local COVID-19 infections, 6 imported cases

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday (30 May) confirmed the detection of 25 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, taking the country's total case count to 62,028.

There are 19 cases of locally transmitted infection, said MOH in a news release. Of these, 14 are linked to past cases, out of which 11 have been placed on quarantine and three were detected through surveillance.

The remaining five local cases are unlinked. All the new cases are from the community, with no new cases found in the migrant workers' dormitories.

There are also six imported cases who have all been placed on Stay-Home Notice since their arrival in the country.

Amongst the new cases today, nine are asymptomatic, and were detected from screening and surveillance, while 16 were symptomatic.

A 95-year-old Singaporean woman died on Sunday from COVID-19 infection, the MOH said. The woman, the 33rd COVID-19 linked fatality in Singapore, was linked to the Changi Airport Terminal 3 cluster.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 182 cases in the week before to 136 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also dropped from 39 cases in the week before to 25 cases in the past week.

Unlinked cases

The five unlinked cases are:

  • a 37-year-old male India national who works as a delivery driver with CCG Logistics

  • a 59-year-old male India national, a retiree who arrived from India on 25 January to visit his Singaporean child

  • a 22-year-old Singaporean man who works as a warehouse assistant at Keppel Logistics

  • a 35-year-old Singaporean man who works at Nur Insan

  • a 65-year-old Singaporean woman who is a homemaker

There are two new active COVID clusters, bringing the total in Singapore to 39. Of all the active clusters, the largest is Changi Airport's 108-case cluster, followed by 63 cases in the Jem/Westgate cluster.

NTUC Foodfare at 308 Anchorvale Road cluster (7 total, 5 new)

One new cluster is NTUC Foodfare (308 Anchorvale Road) cluster. Five new cases were added to the cluster:

  • a 47-year-old Malaysian man who works as a kitchen assistant at Hua Zai HK Style Roasted Delights (21 Hougang Street 51)

  • a 21-year-old Vietnamese man who works as a kitchen assistant at Hua Zai HK Style Roasted Delight Rice Noodle (308 Anchorvale Road)

  • a 22-year-old Malaysian man who works as a kitchen assistant at Hua Zai HK Style Roasted Delights (21 Hougang Street 51)

  • a 27-year-old Malaysian man who works as a kitchen assistant at Hua Zai HK Style Roasted Delight Rice Noodle (308 Anchorvale Road)

  • a 29-year-old male Singapore permanent resident who works as a chef at Rice Garden (308 Anchorvale Road)

NTUC Foodfare at 308 Anchorvale Road is closed from Sunday for two weeks and will reopen on 13 June as investigations by MOH show there is likely ongoing transmission of COVID-19 at the coffee shop.

The authorities will offer free COVID-19 testing for members of the public who had visited the coffee shop from 13 May to 30 May.

Case 63757 cluster (4 total, 3 new)

The second new cluster is named after the case number of a 67-year-old Singaporean man who is a retiree. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on 26 May.

The three new cases in the cluster are:

  • a 57-year-old Singaporean woman who is employed by A&P Maintenance as a cleaner at DHL Supply Chain Advanced Regional Centre

  • a 31-year-old Singaporean man who works in an administrative role at the Central Provident Fund Board and has been working from home

  • a 27-year-old Singaporean woman who works as a retail assistant at Lamy (Bugis Junction and Chinatown Point outlets)

All four cases are linked as household contacts and family members.

The other new cases are linked to existing clusters: Chevy’s Bar and Bistro cluster, the JEM/Westgate cluster, the McDonald’s delivery riders cluster, the Case 63446 cluster, and the Case 63806 cluster.

Chevy’s Bar and Bistro cluster (6 total, 1 new)

The sole new case in the cluster is a 25-year-old Indonesian woman who is a foreign domestic worker.

JEM/ Westgate cluster (63 total, 1 new)

The sole new case in the cluster is a 41-year-old Filipino woman who works as a waitress at Erwin’s Gastrobar (8A Marina Boulevard), and was last at work on 28 May.

McDonald’s delivery riders cluster (20 total, 1 new)

The sole new case in the cluster a 38-year-old Singaporean man who works at Pizza Hut (Punggol Plaza) and had last gone to work on 21 May.

Case 63446 cluster (5 total, 2 new)

Two new cases linked to the cluster are:

  • a 29-year-old Singaporean woman who works in an administrative role at Sephora

  • a 7-month-old Singaporean baby girl

They are family members and household contacts of Case 63446, a 28-year-old Singaporean man who works as an engineer at Patec.

Case 63806 cluster (5 total, 1 new)

The sole new case in the cluster is a 41-year-old male Singapore permanent resident who works as a consultant at ICSC.

Imported cases

Amongst the six imported cases, three are Singaporeans, two are Singapore permanent residents who returned from Belgium, India, Indonesia and the US, and one is a work permit holder who arrived from the Philippines and is a foreign domestic worker.

99% of total cases have recovered, 3 in ICU

With 11 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Sunday, 61,434 cases – or 99 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 222 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while three of them are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

A total of 339 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from the 33 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Among the 204 confirmed cases reported from 24 to 30 May, 52 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 124 have tested negative, and 28 serology test results are pending.
