A Singapore company director was charged on Friday (20 July) for allegedly supplying luxury items ranging from watches, perfumes to wines to North Korea in contravention of United Nations rules.

Ng Kheng Wah, 55, is accused of conspiring with wholesale distributor T Specialist International and two other individuals to commit the offences.

If convicted under the United Nations Act, Ng faces a fine of up to $100,000 or a maximum jail term of five years or both on each charge.

It is illegal to supply luxury goods to North Korea due to UN trade sanctions imposed against the country since 2006.

Ng, who is the director of T Specialist International, faces 161 charges while the company faces 88 charges.

Among the charges he faces include using false invoices to apply for trade financing loans from a number of banks.

For these offences, he faces a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
