Singapore e-scooter sharing startup Telepod is raising money via Kickstarter

E-scooter-sharing platform Telepod raises funding led by SMRT’s corporate VC and incubator

The crowdfunding campaign will end on July 10

Singapore e-scooter sharing startup Telepod is looking to raise S$5,000 (US$3,600) via a Kickstarter campaign. At the time of article’s publishing, the company has already raised S$430 (US$310).

Founded in May last year, Telepod’s operating model bears similarity to bike-sharing companies. Users download an app, locate an e-scooter, and pay a one-time S$49 (US$35) deposit, then pay a fee based on the length of the trip, which is S$1 (US$0.70) per 10 minutes.

Besides its e-scooter sharing service, Telepod also offers e-scooter rentals by the hour. A one-hour rental costs S$23 (US$16.50), while 24 hours of usage will cost S$63 (US$45.50).

Here are some perks that its Kickstarter backers will get:

  • S$15 (US$10.80) of Telepod e-scooter credits for S$10 (US$7.20) — the minimum pledge amount;

  • S$150 (US$108) of Telepod e-scooter credits and three hours e-scooter rental for S$100 (US72);

  • Advertise on five Telepod e-scooters for S$500 (US$360.50);

  • One month rental of 10 Telepod e-scooters under its sharing system for S$1,200 (US$865.50).

Telepod’s e-scooters are equipped with IoT sensors and GPS so operators can locate and track its fleet to gather riders’ travel patterns to optimise its operational capabilities. The smart features also allow Telepod to detect unauthorised usage.

There is already a competing e-scooter sharing company locally called Neuron Mobility, but the difference here is that Telepod offers a dockless system apart from its docking facilities.

Telepod has trialled its e-scooters in Suntec City and Republic Polytechnic. It plans to launch in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in August this year.
