Singapore’s IMDA to invest US$10M to trial smart cities tech

AI-predictive maintenance startup Avanseus secures US$1.3m funding from TNB Aura

The US$10 million initiative will be rolled out across three years

Singapore’s digital government agency, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), has announced it will invest S$14 million (US$10 million) to help fund trials of smart cities technologies.

As part of this new initiative, IMDA has partnered with sustainable urban development firm Ascendas-Singbridge Group (ASB) and industrial real estate agency JTC to trial these new technologies.

The trials will be conducted at ASB’s Science Park 1 and 2 and JTC’s LaunchPad @ one-north, Fusionopolis One and LaunchPad @ Jurong Innovation District.

In addition to these two partners’ sites, IMDA will progressively on-board additional partners to create more opportunities for technology companies.

IMDA wants to accelerate the growth of smart real estates so that developers and facility
owners can benefit from improvements such as energy efficiency and operational
effectiveness, potentially reducing operating costs for buildings and estates.

“Through this inaugural smart estate technology call, we hope to accelerate the development and deployment of innovative urban solutions in sites such as JTC’s Punggol Digital District and subsequently, smart estate projects across the region with partners like ASB,” said Tan Kiat How, Chief Executive, IMDA.

Jeffrey Chua, CEO of Ascendas-Singbridge Services, said that it is important to tap into new technologies to differentiate itself from other real estate developers and reinvent services and enhance customers’ experiences.
