Expect throngs of people snapping away at the famous Instagram Tree in Punggol this weekend, before the Housing Development Board removes it on 16 December.

HDB announced on Facebook on Wednesday (9 December) that they would be removing the famous “Instagram Tree” because it is certified as “dead”.

They said, “HDB recently checked on this tree at Punggol, and arborists have certified that the tree is dead. Although we recognise that this is the popular Punggol #instagram tree, we would advise park visitors to stay away from it as parts of the tree are falling off without warning. “

Singapore Instagrammers will have less than a week to flock to the popular tree, which has its own “#InstagramTree” hashtag and over 1,000 posts on the platform.

It is located along Punggol Waterway Park, and typically requires a bus ride and walk from Punggol MRT station.

Here’s a look back at some of the interesting photos of the tree that have been posted on Instagram.

The tree was struck by lightning some time in July, causing some of its branches to snap and fall to the ground. Despite its dreary look following the thunderstorm, the tree continued to charm Instagrammers. Here’s an image taken by popular local street photographer Aik Beng Chia.

Human evolution in front of the Instagram Tree? Sure, why not. We reckon it’s quite the perfect way to depict the concept of change in an image. Unfortunately, change for the tree would mean being uprooted in the next six days.

Oh yes, remember when the haze shrouded Singapore for what felt like the longest time? When the haze finally cleared, many Singaporeans seemed to have a newfound appreciation for the clear blue skies. This Instagrammer, who did a jumping shot by the tree, seems to be one of them. “There used to be so many clear blue skies, but I did not treasure them”.

There’s only one word to describe this photo – EPIC.

This Instagrammer had already predicted the fate of the tree.

“You lost one of your wings after being struck by lightning last month. Who will destroy you thoroughly? Lightning, wind, rain, or human?”
