Here are the LGBTQ-friendly companies sponsoring Pink Dot 2021
SINGAPORE — The 13th edition of Pink Dot, Singapore's annual demonstration for gay rights, is happening on 12 June. This year's Pink Dot will once again be a virtual edition, since large physical gatherings are not allowed during the pandemic, though, like last year, households and businesses are once more being asked to display pink lights to show their solidarity with the queer community.
Red Dot for Pink Dot, the group of businesses that run the sponsorship drive for the Pink Dot event, announced on Wednesday (2 June) that more than 50 businesses had signed on as sponsors for the Pink Dot livestream.
The first Pink Dot was organised in 2009 and attracted 2,500 participants. Over the years, it has grown into a bigger movement and has become a major voice for the LGBTQ community and its allies. Pink Dot sponsors had included multinational corporations like Google, Facebook, Twitter, Barclays and JP Morgan.
In 2017, the rules governing the Speakers' Corner in Hong Lim Park were changed so that only companies that were majority owned by Singaporeans could support demonstrations at the venue. Red Dot for Pink Dot, or RD4PD, was therefore formed by Darius Cheung, the CEO of property listing site 99.co, to galvanise the local business community to support Pink Dot.
Below is the current list of individuals and companies supporting Pink Dot; the sponsorship drive will run until 10 June 2021, so more companies may join this list.
