Ask.ManyTutors pools answers from its database of over 40,000 tutors

Singapore-based tuition marketplace ManyTutors has released a public beta of its crowdsourced homework solution app Ask.ManyTutors.

The app, available on both iOS and Android, is completely free — so no micro-transactions. The app caters to only Mathematics and Science questions but Founder Lai Weichang said that more subjects will be introduced soon.

All users have to do is snap a picture of the question, upload it to the app, then one of ManyTutors’s pool of over 40,000 tutors would provide a solution within hours. Parents and students themselves can also participate in solving the questions. Users can upvote answers that are accurate and downvote those that are erroneous.

Lai founded ManyTutors with his then-girlfriend (now spouse) in 2005 while battling cancer. Since then, it has pivoted from a p2p matching model to a group matching model meaning students could search for tuition groups within their neighbourhood, allowing parents to cut down on costs and for tutors to boost their earnings efficiently.
