Singapore PR, 44, dies from COVID-19; case had diabetes history
SINGAPORE — A 44-year-old male Singapore permanent resident (PR) died from COVID-19 infection on Sunday (20 June), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Monday.
The man was admitted to Alexandra Hospital on 25 May, and was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on 26 May. He had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of diabetes mellitus.
He was the 35th person in Singapore to have died from COVID-19 and the second youngest fatality. The youngest person to have died from the disease here is a 41-year-old male Chinese national.
In a previous report, MOH identified the PR as Case 63752 who works at Tektronix Southeast Asia, and was a workplace contact of two previous cases. He was placed on quarantine on 25 May and developed a fever, cough and sore throat on the same day, MOH said then.
The Tektronix cluster is currently linked to a total of eight cases.
Alexandra Hospital has reached out to the man's family and is extending assistance to them.
MOH on Monday confirmed 16 new COVID cases in Singapore, taking the country's total case count to 62,430. Thirteen are local cases in the community while the three remaining cases are imported and are returning Singapore residents.
