Hello Kitty fever returned to Singapore with new merchandise themed after the popular Japanese feline character going on sale at most McDonald’s stores this morning.
Singaporeans were spotted queuing at outlets where the limited-edition Hello Kitty meal carriers were to go on sale at 7am for S$7.90 with every purchase of an extra value meal or “Double Feast” burgers such as the Double Filet-O-Fish Feast.
The carriers, which can fit a regular-sized drink and large fries, are not sold online and only available at the store counter. Probably makes sense given that online sales of branded pyjamas brought down McDonald’s site and app just one month ago. Each person is limited to two carriers per transaction.
Photos showed lines snaking outside stores in Tampines, Braddell, Sengkang and Chinatown Point. Queue started forming as early as 5:45 am.
The carriers are on sale at outlets islandwide except for those at Shell gas stations in Tampines and Hougang, as well as the McDonald’s kiosk at the Tampines bus interchange.
Several people didn’t spend too long in line compared to previous times McDonald’s has fronted Hello Kitty swag. Some said they got their carriers within minutes this morning. There were also no sign of the carriers selling out — at least not as of publication time.
“I got it again in less than 10 minutes,” said a @Viivienw on Instagram.
“Stocks are still available and there are no queues at almost all McDonald’s stores,” a post on the Singapore Atrium Sale Facebook page said at about 9am. The page is known for monitoring all sorts of sales around Singapore.
If you’re wondering what the carriers really look like, a Joanna Ash has posted an unboxing video to Facebook for the world to see.
