Singapore's largest centre for local creatives opening in Katong
Creative entrepreneurs, makers and designers now have more reason to rejoice. MOX, a new design resource workspace, will be opening at Katong in October.
Occupying 40,000 square feet over four storeys at the newly refurbished Katong Point, the work space will have specialty tools for creatives to work with, a community to encourage collaborations, as well as a retail storefront.
According to a press release on Wednesday (27 September), MOX was set up specifically to address problems that the creative communities face in their businesses, such as the lack of access to specialty tools, creative networks, and design software.
Equipment and facilities were chosen to address the issue of high capital costs faced by creatives, and include specialty studios for photography, 3D printing, woodworking, leather crafting and sewing. It also offers rental of retail spaces and venues to host workshops, classes and seminars.
“It is the first and largest independent design resource workspace equipped with tailored infrastructure, resource centre and support system to accelerate and scale creative businesses,” said Kent Teo, founder of MOX and chief executive officer of Invade, a company which manages pop-up retail stores and runs flea markets.
Creative start-up companies such as Mighty Jaxx, Snupped, Tee-Saurus and Triple Eyelid have already made their homes at MOX.
“I look forward to this partnership with Invade to drive the makers’ movement, empowering entrepreneurial talents to be brave, bold and daring in their pursuit to transform passion into livelihood,” said Kishore Buxani, owner of Katong Point and chief executive officer of the Buxani Group.
There will be an open house for the public on 14 October, from 10am to 6pm, where members of the public can take part in workshops and activities.
