Singaporean singer Joanna Dong will be organising and hosting an epic Lunar New Year concert at the Sands Theatre in Marina Bay Sands.

The singer, best known for being a finalist on the reality singing show Sing! China, will perform a medley of Lunar New Year songs with a modern-jazz twist. The singer will also debut a festive single that we reckon will be a huge treat for fans.

Titled “You Must Believe In Spring”, the concert will also mark Dong’s debut as set designer and director as she decks the stage with flowers and plants from local botanical design studio, This Humid House.

It's the first time Dong and her husband are undertaking a big project together, and the singer shared with Yahoo Life SEA, "We met during theatre, so we do come from a theatrical background, but we're both actors, to begin with. So we have a lot of stage experience but on the stage, not so much behind the scenes. This is a learning curve for both of us and also we never had to negotiate anything like that, putting up a show together at this scale."

In the interview, Dong also let on that while she successfully performed around the region and had led memorable, high-profile showcases like National Day, she felt something was amiss at the end of 2019. That's when the singer sought professional help for her mental wellbeing: "In spite of achieving all my career goals, in spite of being well-loved by friends, by my husband, having a stable relationship at home; I still found myself to be really down. Going to therapy before the pandemic was the best decision I made."

Having the right resources on hand, Dong said the pandemic has reaffirmed her priorities to be at the right place. Now in 2022, Dong is roaring into the new year with her first live concert, and she can't wait to see her loyal fans upfront.

So what can fans expect from her show? Dong will reinterpret some of our favourite songs with a jazzy touch. "Anyone who is familiar with my music will know that I seldom ever sing the classics, the original way. Chinese New Year songs are a whole genre of classics by themselves. They are very well-loved and most of us would know, at least the chorus to the familiar Chinese New Year songs. When something is as classic and as well-loved as Chinese New Year songs, you'd want to be careful with how you approach it," she shared.
