DUNGUN: Six people including four family members suffered serious injuries when a car they were travelling in was rammed by a lorry laden with sundry items near the Tanjung Jara junction on Wednesday.
As all the goods in the lorry were strewn on the road in the accident which occurred at Km68.8 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan, it led to a massive congestion.
The lorry crashed into a Hyundai Starex, in which the driver, Zubir Muda, 51, from Sura Jetty suffered serious bodily injuries and was sent to the Dungun Hospital for treatment.
His wife Norizah Sulaiman, 47, and two children Nurul Munirah Zubir, 8, and Muhammad Shahir Zubir, 17, also suffered light injuries and were also admitted to the same hospital.
It was learnt the Hyundai was heading towards the main road from a junction near the Tanjung Jara Hotel.
It is understood that the lorry from Kuala Terengganu has failed to stop in time before it rammed into the vehicle in the 11am incident.
The impact of the crash led the lorry to overturn, scattering all the goods on the road.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zailani Yaacub, who confirmed the incident, said the 28-year-old lorry driver and his 29-year-old assistant suffered light injuries and were also sent to the Dungun Hospital.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for careless driving. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
