Slight changes in iPhone 5C casing hint at new control layout

Apple's upcoming budget smartphone, the iPhone 5C, may have some minor changes in the location of the volume and mute controls, if newly leaked photos of what appears to be the rear case of the highly anticipated smartphone are accurate.

Blogger Sonny Dickson posted several photos of the rear of a white plastic iPhone, though initially with no shots of the components inside, tech site CNET reported.

"It's just a piece of the device, so there are no internals inside, just some mounts for various components. Also of note is that there don't appear to be any openings for the typical volume buttons and mute switch, which have been included on each and every iPhone model so far," CNET said (

"Dickson has posted 5C photos before, but these latest offer a more diverse look. Last month the Australian blogger posted a shot that depicts various possible colors for the 5C rear shell," it added.

CNET cited rumors indicating the iPhone 5C may debut alongside an updated iPhone 5 in the fall.

The report said Apple, which has sold older models at cheaper prices, hopes to have the iPhone 5C target prepaid markets such as China. — TJD, GMA News
