SMRT train fault along East-West Line causes long travel delays
A train fault along the East-West Line at Tanah Merah on Thursday evening (30 March) caused longer travel times for commuters and overcrowding at bus stops.
SMRT first alerted commuters about the train fault in a tweet at 5.57pm. The train operator asked commuters to factor in 20 minutes and 40 minutes of additional travel time from Pasir Ris to Paya Lebar towards Joo Koon in separate tweets.
Free bus services were available from Tanah Merah to Paya Lebar.
In a video obtained by Yahoo Singapore, affected commuters who were travelling towards Pasir Ris had to alight at Eunos MRT station and seek alternative modes of transport.
At 6.54pm, SMRT said train service between the affected stations has resumed and that free bus services are still available.
