Prinsep Street Residences (PSR), a new co-living apartment complex at Singapore Management University (SMU), is set to open in August, featuring a work-play, café and multi-purpose lounges, reported the New Paper.

Serving as a co-living community of students working on projects for various modules, PSR will have 204 vibrantly coloured bedrooms.

“All freshmen to final-year students can apply for a space in PSR, and will be assessed via their past achievements, prior experiences or level of interest in the modules offered,” said SMU’s Dean of Students, Prof Paulin Straughan.

She revealed that foreign students will account for at least 50 percent of PSR’s population.

Indian national Toshin Sequeira, who is a Bachelor of Science (Economics) student at SMU, said: “(PSR will) allow students to collaborate on many levels, be it for leadership, social entrepreneurship or community service, while not losing out on precious study time. Students can pursue passions, try their luck at ventures and enhance SMU’s ability to give back to the community.”

Student-led activities such as sightseeing and night cycling will help foreign students integrate with local students at PSR.

Believing that PSR would be a success, Prof Straughan noted that unlike co-living startups, “there is already an existing interest in the concept from students in recent years”.

“So now we’re simply building them a space to satisfy the demand.”
