Snow Falls in Des Moines Metro Area as Cold Weather Moves Through Central Iowa

Residents of the Des Moines metro area reported heavy snow and wind gusts on October 19 as parts of central Iowa remained under a snow squall warning.

The warning was in effect through 12.45 on Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) said, with one to three inches of snow forecast.

The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) urged drivers to avoid Interstate 35 near Ankeny, sharing images of the low visibility. The NWS in Des Moines confirmed that the severe weather caused several road traffic accidents.
