Sons of ex-PBA stars to lead Jr. NBA team

MANILA, Philippines - Seven players from Manila and three from Cebu, two of whom are sons fomer PBA stars, were chosen to represent the Philippine All-Star team in an international competition at the end of the annual Jr. NBA Philippines Program presented by Alaska.

Selected from Manila are Kobe Lorenzo Paras and Ferdinand Ravena III, sons of ex-pros Benjie Paras, a two-time PBA Most Valuable Player, and Bong Ravena, as well as Jarrell Lim, Lorenzo Fernando Navarro, Alfred Sajulga, Justin Oliver Serrano and Tsaddy John Tabaldo.

Coming from Cebu are Miguel Kristoffer Competente, Dawn Hynric Ochea and Rendell Thomas Senining.

The 10 players, who bested 40 other contenders, will form the RP All-Star team that will compete this year against other winners in the Asian region. Aside from that, the winners will also have a rare chance to watch a NBA game live next season.

According to Frank Lopez, the Jr. NBA Coach, this is by far the tallest Jr. NBA All Star Team ever to be assembled in the four-year history of the Jr. NBA in the Philippines after the three-day National Training Camp attended by NBA legend AC Green at La Salle Green Hills and the SM Mall of Asia.

Five players received special awards for their outstanding achievements that tested their skills and Jr. NBA core S.T.A.R. values.

Dawn Hynric Ochea was named the Alaska Most Valuable Player of the camp, Alfred Sajulga won the Gatorade Hustle Award, Niño Dave Paon won the Asia Miles Sportsmanship Award, John Lorenz Toral received the BTV Rising Star Award, and Lorenzo Fernando Navarro got the Hi-Smart All Star Player Award. Jarrell Lim was selected as Alaska Youth Ambassador.
