Sony Animation picks up writer T.J. Fixman for 'Popeye' adaptation

The spinach loving pop-culture icon will again be portrayed onscreen for Sony Pictures Animation, this time with the help of TV, comics and video game writer T.J. Fixman.

Since its creation some 90 years ago, the character of Popeye has appeared in ads, comics, animated on-screen and was even played by Robin Williams in 1980. Though no information has been given on a possible release date, entertainment publication Deadline reveals that the project is a priority with the Sony Animation studios.

Writer T.J. Fixman has written a number of films for various studios including "Men Who Kill" for Fox starring Michael B. Jordan, "Gargoyles" for Disney and "One Night on the Hudson" with Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day for Universal.
