Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles confirms that missiles for Patriot air defense systems provided by Madrid and its allies have been delivered to Ukraine, Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported on May 6.

Robles made the announcement during a visit to Zaragoza, where Ukrainian troops are training.

“These missiles are for air defense and are clearly intended to protect Ukraine from ongoing Russian attacks,” said the minister.

Robles added that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin clearly has no qualms about continuing to use devastating air strikes against Ukraine’s civilian population.

Speaking at the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting on April 26, Robles said that Spain would deliver the anti-air missiles to Ukraine in the coming days.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously called on allies to provide at least seven Patriot systems to protect major Ukrainian cities from Russian air strikes.
