Spencer Matthews completes gruelling 30 marathons in blistering heat
The Made in Chelsea star completed the record-breaking 30 marathons in 30 days in Jordan
Spencer Matthews has completed the record-breaking and incredibly tough 30 marathons in 30 days.
The former Made In Chelsea star celebrated his Guinness World Record on Instagram with a triumphant photograph of him crossing the finish line in Jordan. After having run 30 marathons in the Jordanian desert where temperatures exceed 40C, he admitted: "I did it. I can hardly believe it."
The final marathon was completed in 4 hours and 17 minutes. Spencer took to social media to share his incredible achievement with his 935,000 followers on Instagram. He wrote: "I DID IT!!! I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT!! 30 DESERT MARATHONS IN 30 CONSECUTIVE DAYS… ALL ON SAND. I am now a Guinness World Records holding endurance athlete - the first and only person to successfully run this many back-to-back marathons in these extreme conditions. Just over 42.2km or 26.2 miles, every single day."

As much as £342,000 has been raised for charity. Working with Global’s Make Some Noise who help small charities across the UK, Matthews urged more people to donate following his epic journey.
He added: "That’s 1,274.02km of some of the world’s toughest terrain with no comfort in which to recover. I did this to raise awareness and funds for the incredible work that @globals_make_some_noise do to support small charities across the UK, making sure no one has to go through life’s toughest challenges alone. (For more detailed information regarding the causes and specific examples of how your donations can help please refer to my most recent pinned post).
"So far we have raised a staggering £342,508 but as far as I’m concerned, we are just getting started… Please consider donating now if you haven’t already via the link in my bio. 100% of your donations go directly to Global’s Make Some Noise and absolutely nothing has gone or will go to me, my team or the logistics of the challenge.
"Huge thanks to my incredible support team without whom this would have been impossible. Your professionalism and constant prevention of issues before they became serious allowed me to achieve this goal. A truly unforgettable journey. What a month! What a feeling!"
Emotional reunion with wife Vogue Williams
Cheering him on the whole way was his wife Vogue Williams and their three children: Theodore, five, Gigi, three, and Otto, two. Ahead of completing the challenge, Matthews was reunited with his wife and their children whom he missed "terribly" while away for weeks. He told RSVP Live: "Vogue and the kids... It’s so lovely to see them; I’ve missed them terribly so it’s great that they are here."
He added: "But camp is absolutely no place for them, so we found something that was a little bit more commercial. It means we have to drive about an hour to and from the starting points for the marathon, which was not what we were doing before, but it meant that I got to see them for an extra day."
Model and presenter Williams shared the emotional moment of being reunited with her husband in the form of sweet photographs on her Instagram with her 1.1m followers.
Previously speaking on Good Morning Britain, Matthews laid bare how the communication would be tougher for the family while he was completing the marathons in the desert. The couple had invested in a sat phone so they could stay in touch during the challenge.
He said: "The communication might be a bit tougher. We've got a (satellite) phone with us as well, just in case there's no reception. There is some reception in the desert, which is a strange thing to imagine that there is, but there will be an eight-day period where there's just nothing, no communication of any kind. But we have a sat phone. It's very expensive to use, so it'll be a quick call."
Spencer Matthews lost two stone
Last week, Matthews revealed he lost two stone while he was doing the 30 marathon challenge. The Made In Chelsea star said the exercise was "quite extreme" and he was burning as much as 7,000 calories a day while running in the heat.
He told Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Zoe Hardman: "I’ve lost over 10 kilos now. This is not how I would advise people to try and lose weight. What we’re doing out here is quite extreme. Weight loss is certainly not really a point of this, but I’m burning over 7,000 calories a day, so to replace those calories is actually quite difficult in itself.
"Obviously, we’re quite tired during the day, it’s very, very hot out here, so you’re just constantly expensing energy. And yeah, I mean, I’m a hungry boy, and I love my food – but 7,000 calories is quite rough on replace, so I am getting smaller."
