KOTA BARU: An Orang Asli candidate from Gua Musang is among the students who scored 4As in the subjects she registered for in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination last year.
Kelantan Education Department director Jaafar Ismail said the candidate was identified as Juliana Rosli of SMK Tengku Bendahara in Jenek.
"It (pleasantly surprised) the department that an Orang Asli candidate scored 4As in subjects which included Bahasa Melayu and History.
“This proves that Orang Asli students in rural areas can get good results," he told a press conference here today.
Jaafar said 250 SPM students scored straight As in all the subjects they sat for.
He added that a total of 31,267 candidates sat for the exam at 270 centres throughout Kelantan last year. The number includes 91 private candidates.
