SINGAPORE — Up to 10 fully-vaccinated persons can enjoy team sports activities at selected ActiveSG and People's Association (PA) facilities from Wednesday (10 November), if each of the participants produces a valid negative self-administered antigen rapid test (ART).

Sport Singapore (SportSG) said in a media release on Tuesday that this pilot plan comes as part of the easing of some community safe management measures announced by the Multi-Ministry Taskforce on COVID-19 (MTF) on Monday.

The pilot will be carried out only in selected time-slots at designated ActiveSG and PA facilities, across a range of barrier and direct contact team sports such as badminton, basketball, futsal and volleyball.

Unvaccinated individuals, including the medically ineligible and children 12 years and below who are not yet eligible for vaccination, are not allowed to participate even if they have a valid negative pre-event test result.

This pilot will be extended to suitable private facility operators at a later date. Team sport formats in other unsupervised settings will continue to adhere to a group size of 2 persons.

Sports activities for seniors in a controlled environment

From Wednesday, SportSG will also be piloting sport and physical activities for fully-vaccinated or COVID-19 recovered seniors aged 60 years and above in a controlled environment at selected ActiveSG Sport Centres.

These activities will be under the supervision of SportSG staff, enforcement officers and safe distancing ambassador.

Activities such as aquatic programmes, badminton, pickleball and square stepping will be held at specific sites and dedicated timings, to ensure that the participating seniors do not mix with the participants of other programmes.

Group sizes for organised sports classes and programmes

For general organised classes and programmes, multiple groups of two, up to 50 participants (including instructors), can take place for indoor masked and outdoor unmasked activities.

However, should the class require the participants to be unmasked indoors, then the total is only up to 30 participants. Furthermore, all of the participants have to be fully vaccinated for the class to take place.

Participants should continue to observe a two-metre physical distancing between individuals for general physical activities and high-intensity indoor exercise classes. Cross-mixing or cross-playing between groups are not allowed.

Spectator sports, mass participation events

From Wednesday, spectator sports events such as Singapore Premier League football matches can proceed with up to 1,000 fully-vaccinated spectators. These spectators will be in zones of up to 100 persons, up from 50 per zone before the latest easing of SMMs.

Mass participation sport events - such as mass runs, open-water swims, cycling and triathlon events - can also proceed with up to 1,000 fully-vaccinated participants per session. Likewise, the participants can now be organised in waves of up to 100 persons, up from 50 per wave.

However, these sport events will not be allowed to have invited spectators. Organisers are to put in place measures to prevent the spontaneous gathering of onlookers for such events. Events catering to seniors 60 and above are also discouraged.

At sport events where public speaking is necessary, such as a by the guest-of-honour or an event emcee, the speaker can be unmasked as long as he maintains a distance of at least two metres from the audience whilst speaking. This provision does not apply to an instructor or referee unmasking to give instructions.

All sport events that involve more than 50 persons will need to be endorsed by SportSG before they can be conducted. Organisers will have to submit an application to SportSG at least 14 days prior to the start of the event to give time for evaluation and discussion.
