Square the circle: Cuemath raises US$4M to help students crack maths and improve logical reasoning
The funds raised from Sequoia Capital and Unitus Seed Fund will be used to expand its math learning programmes in India and international markets
Cuemath, a Bangalore-based startup offering after-school math learning programmes, has secured US$4 million in Series A round of funding led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from returning investor Unitus Seed Fund.
The funds will be used to expand its math learning programmes in India as well as international markets.
“Our ambition is to expand our unique math learning programme to various cities in India and other geographies outside of India. We are looking at a 4-5x growth in the number of teachers and 20x growth in students by the end of March 2017,” said Manan Khurma, Founder of Cuemath
The company was founded in 2013 by the father-son duo of Jagjit and Manan Khurma.
Cuemath is a sophisticated after-school maths learning programme for students from grades LKG through VIII. It partners with homemakers to run home-based learning centres for students.
Designed by math, education and technology graduates from IIT, IIM, Stanford, Cambridge and Harvard, Cuemath makes every aspect of learning maths engaging and comprehensive by using math worksheets and application-based technology under the supervision of trained and certified teachers.
“Cuemath has personalisation strongly integrated into its system. Each child works on his/her own learning trajectory, independent of the next child. This is possible since ours is a learning-by-doing model and the teacher is only facilitating the learning process instead of teaching,” Khurma added.
The firm claims to have over 1,000 Cuemath centres operating across Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. It has signed up over 1,200 teachers till date.
