Sri Aman farmer is 11th rabies casualty

KUCHING: A farmer from Sri Aman infected with rabies was pronounced dead at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), near here today.

The 49-year-old man’s death brings the number of fatalities from the outbreak of rabies, which began in Serian in June last year, to 11.

Health Ministry confirmed the man had passed away at 3.57pm today at the hospital.

The victim was admitted on Friday.

“A total of 12 infected cases were reported, with 11 deaths recorded thus far,” the ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, a 44-year-old man from Jalan Matang was admitted at the hospital after he was suspected to have contracted the disease. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
