Stacey Solomon has paid an emotional tribute to her dog Theo after the pet died on Boxing Day.

The mother-of-four said the family's hearts were "utterly broken" at having to say goodbye to their pet of 11 years as she described Theo as her "little girl".

Solomon, 32, posted multiple photos and videos of the dog to her Instagram alongside herself and her children, sons Zachary, 13, Leighton, nine, and Rex, two, as well as partner Joe Swash.

In a post to her feed, she wrote: "Sweet Dreams Theo. The best friend we could have ever wished for. Our hearts are broken. Yesterday at home in our arms we had to say goodnight to our Theo."

She went on: "My lap has never felt so empty. I miss you so much already. My little girl. But oh my goodness the memories and the love you brought into our lives. Thank you for everything Theo. For protecting me and the boys when we needed it most."

Solomon also thanked Theo for "holding on" to meet her daughter Rose, whom she and Swash, 39, welcomed into the world in October.

"Rex has had the best friend in you that he could ever have wished for and the boys have had the best protector in the whole wide world.

"Even though Rex is only little I know him, Zachary and Leighton will never ever forget you," Solomon asserted.

She added that their remaining dog Peanut was "missing his cuddle buddy" too.

Solomon said Theo had died in her arms at their home, Pickle Cottage, surrounded by the family.

It comes after the Loose Women star recently revealed she and Swash are planning to get married in July after postponing their nuptials from this summer once they found out they were expecting.

They are set to exchange vows in the back garden of their home.
