Stanley Recalls 2.6 Million Travel Mugs Due to Burn Hazard
Check your mug's product identification number.
On December 12, 2024, Stanley issued a recall of 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold in the U.S. These double-walled mugs were sold in a variety of colors, including black and white, and were available in 12, 16, and 20-ounce sizes.
The mug's lid threads may shrink when exposed to heat, causing it to become detached and fall off, posing a burn hazard when hot liquids are inside the cup. So far, Stanley has received 91 reports of this happening worldwide, 16 of which were from the U.S. The flaw has resulted in 38 injuries to date, including two in the U.S.
The affected mugs were sold online (including on Amazon.com) and through a number of national retailers, including Dick's Sporting Goods, Walmart, and Target, from June 2016 through December 2024 for $20 to $50, depending on the mug type and size. The mugs have the Stanley logo printed on the front and bottom.
