"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits SGD1 million in IMAX

29 Jan – "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" continues to awaken new records everywhere, the latest being hitting SGD1 million in IMAX box office takings in Singapore.

The latest instalment of the "Star Wars" franchise has become the biggest IMAX movie here since the format was introduced back in May 2011.

"We are delighted to celebrate the IMAX box office success of "Star Wars" in Singapore with our valued partner Shaw Theatres," said Mr. Walt Cho, Director, Film Distribution & Marketing, Asia Pacific, IMAX Corporation.

The movie proves to be a very popular choice for the IMAX audiences, as it is now the company's second highest-grossing film of all time behind 2009's "Avatar".

Worldwide, it holds the biggest IMAX opening weekend with USD48 Million and was also the fastest to reach both the USD100 Million and USD200 Million milestones.

Currently, the movie has grossed USD7 million in Singapore, based on Box Office Mojo stats, and still stands as the third highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide with its global gross of USD1.9 billion.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has been showing in cinemas since 17 December, shown in IMAX formats only at Shaw Theatres Lido in Orchard Road, Shaw Theatres JCube in Jurong East and Shaw Theatres Waterway Point in Punggol.
