Erik ten Hag’s desperate desire to return Manchester United to glory could be receiving its ideal new component in the form of Marcel Sabitzer.

The Austrian midfielder completed a loan move to the Red Devils late on transfer deadline day to cover for Christian Eriksen’s three-month injury absence.

Sabitzer, 28, has been something of a bit-part player at Bayern Munich this season and arrives at United determined to earn a regular spot in the line-up, as comments from agent Roger Wittmann reveal.

“[Sabitzer] is the most unpleasant person to be around when he's not playing,” he told Sky Sports in Germany.

“He hates it when he loses. That's the bottom line. Character-wise, the kid is a killer.

“That's what players who always want to win look like.”

Ten Hag will not have Sabitzer available for his debut on Wednesday night against Nottingham Forest but his visa should be completed in time for the weekend clash against Crystal Palace.

Sabitzer told the United website after completing his quickfire switch that he did not hesitate when given the call by the club.

“Sometimes in life you have to make quick and important decisions,” he stated.

“From the moment I heard about this opportunity I knew it was right for me. I am a competitive player; I want to win and help the club achieve its aims this season.

“I feel that I am at my peak as a player, and that I can contribute a lot of experience and energy to the squad. I am excited to start with my new team-mates and manager and to show my qualities to Manchester United fans.”
