State opposition leader named Penang PAC chairman

GEORGE TOWN: State opposition leader Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor has been appointed as the state legislative assembly’s new Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman for the current term. A motion was tabled by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow proposing the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Sungai Dua assemblyman to helm the post. The state PAC will comprise 10 members, including Yusoff. The motion, read for the second time by Chow, was unanimously approved. “The PAC is set up to scrutinise any accounts or Auditor-General’s Report tabled in the state legislative assembly. “It also has the power to call up anyone,” he said.

The others in the state PAC are Lee Chun Kit (PH-Pulau Tikus), Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH-Seri Delima), M. Satees (PH-Bagan Dalam), Lee Khai Loon (PH-Machang Bubuk), Dr Norlela Ariffin (PH-Penanti), Gooi Hsioa-Leung (PH-Bukit Tengah), Muhammad Faiz Fadzil (PH-Permatang Pasir), Zolkifly Md Lazim (PH-Teluk Bahang) and Mohd Yusni Mat Piah (PAS-Penaga). Meanwhile, Chow also proposed state DAP secretary Lim Hui Ying and former Balik Pulau member of parliament Yusmadi Yusoff as Senator for a three-year period, which also received unanimous support. They replace Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail and Dr Ariffin SM Omar, whose tenure ended on June 1. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
