Steve Carell in talks for 'Minecraft'

Steve Carell will also star in Rebecca Miller's "She Came to Me," alongside Nicole Kidman and Amy Schumer

The upcoming "Minecraft" movie may soon count Steve Carell among its cast members.

Carell ("Crazy Stupid Love," "Foxcatcher") is in talks to join the adaptation of the video game, announces Variety, in what would be the movie's first major casting.

Rob McElhenney ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") is to direct the feature and also wrote the latest draft along with Jason Fuchs ("Wonder Woman"), according to Variety.

The cinematic adaptation of the video game sensation has set a release date of May 24, 2019, with 3D and IMAX versions also supported.

Steve Carell most recently appeared in Woody Allen's "Cafe Society" and wrapped production on "Battle of the Sexes," which co-stars Emma Stone as Billie Jean King.
