Storm Imelda Brings Power Outages to Houston
Storm Imelda caused power outages in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, September 18, after it made landfall and thunderstorms battered the area.
The tropical depression, which formed over the Gulf of Mexico, moved slowly across the Lone Star State on Wednesday, local media reported.
In a video uploaded to Twitter, user @xSTRICKLYDUBx said the Houston skyline was blanketed in darkness, as lightning flashed in the distance. “Wow, the power is out everywhere,” the user says in the video.
Storm Imelda was expected to bring heavy rain to the Houston area for the duration of Wednesday, September 18.
Jeff Lindner, a meteorologist with the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD), a government agency, said that up to 20 inches of rainfall were recorded in the storm’s first 24 hours.
