Stratified Property Owners Can Pay Parcel Rent Until May
Stratified property owners in Penang can pay their parcel rent for this year until May 2020 without incurring any penalty. Parcel rent for 2019, which replaced quit rent for stratified property lots, have been sent out in stages in November.
“Those who have received the 2019 bills have until May 2020 to pay up without any late penalty,” said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. “Owners who have not received their bills can get them from any Revenues counter, Land and District Office, or the Land and Minerals Office by Dec 31 this year.”
He noted that those who had not yet paid their parcel rent bill for this year can have their arrears combined to their parcel rent bill for next year, as reported in The Star.

The bills for 2020 will be sent out from January via the property’s management corporation or joint management body.
Parcel owners are also advised to update their mailing addresses at their respective Land and District Office or online at etanah.penang.gov.my in order that their 2021 parcel rent bills will be directly sent to them.
The parcel bills can be paid from next year at any District and Land Office or via the ebayar.penang.gov.my portal.
Based on each unit’s floor area, the new parcel rent is expected to resolve issues relating to the arrears by the management as well as help ease transfer of property, said Chow.
“Prior to this, the quit rent was based on the total plot the property was built on,” he said. “It was paid by the management corporation of the stratified property.”
As at October this year, the Penang government received RM1.536 million from the RM11.129 million still to be collected, added Chow.
Penang has 1,836 strata schemes with 227,874 lots.
