Easter is coming up, and as you begin to make arrangements with family, plan Easter games for the kids, and prepare their Easter baskets, the nation continues to navigate the coronavirus pandemic. You still may not feel comfortable attending Easter mass in person as you normally would, and that's understandable. Luckily, that doesn't mean you have to miss out on Easter Sunday mass entirely. You can still stream Easter Sunday mass online through various platforms and outlets. Thanks to a number of streaming services, apps, and even local churches, you and your family can stream Easter mass this year and experience the holiness of the day from the comfort of your own home.

And while this Easter mass might not be like previous years, there are some pluses to take note of: You won't have to shush your kids when they're making too much noise, you can focus on the mass on your screen without being distracted by other patrons, and if you're an introverted church-goer, you can avoid all the awkward small talk you'd typically make with other parishioners.

One of the first steps you should take if you're going to go virtual and attend Easter mass online this year is to look at your own church's website or call their phone number to find out if they're streaming it. What better way to watch Easter mass than by doing it with your own parish? That way, you'll see some familiar faces and feel part of your community. If your church doesn't have that available to you, there are plenty of other ways to stream Easter mass online.

How to Stream the Vatican's Easter Mass Online

At the top of our list is live streaming Pope Francis as he celebrates Easter on Sunday, April 17 at 5 a.m. EST (11 a.m. in Rome). Simply navigate to the Vatican's website or the Vatican News YouTube Channel to watch the full service.

U.S. Churches Hosting Virtual Easter Mass Online

St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City regularly live streams mass. You can watch mass virtually on Easter Sunday through the St. Patrick's Cathedral website or the Cathedral's Facebook page, or watch live on Saint Patrick Cathedral's YouTube page. The St. Patrick's Cathedral Easter Solemn Mass begins at 10 a.m. EST on Sunday, April 17, 2022. If streaming is not your thing, you can also watch it on TV by tuning into WPIX.

Another popular streaming service is Catholic TV, which offers a variety of masses, and posts a mass schedule so you can choose which mass works best for you and your family. Other websites, like Streaming Churches Online and Christian World Media, offer the same kinds of services at a smaller level, and all three of these services are free of charge.

Apps for Easter Sunday

If you prefer to stream from an electronic tablet or smartphone, there are apps that can connect you to Easter Sunday masses. One such app, SermonAudio, not only streams mass, but also has prayer cards, bible passages, and readings. You can download SermonAudio from the Apple App Store, or get the SermonAudio Android edition at the Google Play Store.

How to Find Local Virtual Services

Another alternative if you are hoping to stream a more local service is to go to your local Archdiocesan's website, like the Diocese of Camden site, which can guide you to a schedule of services in your area that are live-streaming on Easter. You can also go directly to your own parish's site to see if they will be doing a livestream via YouTube Live, Facebook Live, or another streaming app.

Things to Know Before Streaming Mass

Don't forget to have an HDMI cable on hand if you plan to stream any of the options above using a phone or laptop, but want to watch on your TV screen for a better experience. Most TVs should have a way to connect your other devices so the whole family can enjoy together.

You can also stream any of the above mass options (and your favorite Easter movies for the rest of the day, by the way) directly on the big screen through one of the following devices:

We hope tuning in to virtual Easter mass will help you keep the spirit of Easter alive, despite having to take extra precaution during the COVID pandemic. And the best part is, after mass, you can quickly hit the yard for an Easter egg hunt with your immediate family — no commuting required.
