Stretch of Canning Rise to be closed permanently and pedestrianised
A stretch of one-way road Canning Rise will be permanently closed to traffic and pedestrianised from 12 midnight on 3 January, 2019.
According to a statement released by National Parks Board (NParks) on Wednesday (21 November), the road closure is to create better connectivity between Fort Canning Park’s Farquhar Garden and Fort Canning Green, as well as a pedestrian-friendly environment within the park.
The road portion to be closed starts after the Registry of Marriages and ends before the coach drop-off bay of the National Museum of Singapore.
Directional and information signs for guidance
Motorists driving to the coach drop-off bay, as well as Fort Canning Park car parks A and B, are advised to use Canning Walk. Access to the National Archives Singapore, Singapore Philatelic Museum, Singapore Management University School of Law and the Registry of Marriages via Canning Rise is not affected.
NParks said that there will be directional and information signs to guide motorists prior to the road closure and during construction works.
Information will also be disseminated via the Land Transport Authority’s OneMotoring website.
