'Strictly Come Dancing': Corrie's Katie McGlynn cuts foot on glass glitterball

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Katie McGlynn has injured her foot by kicking a glass glitterball during promotional filming for the show.

The 28-year-old actor – best known for playing Sinead Tinker in Coronation Streetwas wearing high-heels that left her feet exposed when was asked to run up to the glitterball, which she believed to be plastic, and pretend to kick it.

But the Hollyoaks star – who plays Becky Quentin in the Channel 4 soap – is reported to have misunderstood what the directors were asking and taken a run up before making full contact with the glass glitterball, causing it to smash.

McGlynn later shared a picture on Twitter, laughing off reports she was in pain.

She wrote: "It’s amazing what I find out about myself! During filming for Strictly I kicked a prop which gave me a small cut. According to a ‘source’ I was ‘absolutely raging’, ‘blamed staff’ and am in ‘severe pain’?! …the cut in question a load of rubbish! I actually had a lovely day."

A Strictly spokesperson said: “Katie McGlynn sustained a minor cut to her foot whilst filming some digital material for Strictly Come Dancing. She was treated by the on-site medic who applied a plaster and she is absolutely fine.”

The soap star was nominated for a Bafta and won an NTA for her performance in Corrie as young mother Sinead Tinker, who died from cervical cancer in 2019.

The BBC celebrity dance contest is due to begin on Saturday 18 September.

Also taking part this year are BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker, McFly's Tom Fletcher, Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, EastEnders stars Nina Wadia and Rose Ayling-Ellis and former Bake Off winner John Whaite.

Comedian Robert Webb, actor Greg Wise and Gordon Ramsay’s daughter Tilly are also among the stars taking to the dancefloor in the hope of winning the coveted Glitterball trophy.

Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas will be back, but Anton Du Beke will be filling in for Bruno Tonioli.

Tonioli is unable to take part because of the complications of travelling between the UK and the US, where he judges Dancing With The Stars, amid the COVID pandemic.
