Strictly Come Dancing's Pete Wicks has opened up about his exit from the show, saying he is "proud" of what he achieved alongside professional partner Jowita Przystal.

During last night's (December 8) semi-final, Pete and Jowita were sent home after finding themselves in the dance-off against Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec.

Appearing on tonight's (December 9) It Takes Two, Pete said of making it all the way to the semi-final: "I can't believe that I managed to get there."

On performing the foxtrot to Bobby Darin's 'Beyond the Sea' this weekend, he said: "I absolutely loved it, having the stick in there was good in case I fell over. I enjoyed that one, so yeah, I loved the foxtrot."

Opening up about scoring two 9s for their semi-final performance, Jowita said of Pete: "The Foxtrot was beautiful and he did amazing and I'm so happy and glad because we had two dances that week, and I know Pete was really scared of that, and he did so well and I think it was the best week we ever had."

"It was the most relaxed week we had," Pete added. "Genuinely it was the most relaxed week I think and I don't know why."

Asked how he feels about dancing now, Pete said: "Dancing, to me, is about feeling something. It's about feeling something yourself and making other people feel something whether that be good, bad, whatever.

"I think there's a lot of rules when it comes to dancing, of doing it technically right and the rest of it but when you're actually doing it, as long as you're enjoying it that's all that matters."

Describing his journey on the show, Pete said he started off worrying about getting steps right but eventually "let go", saying that Saturday night's semi-final was his "favourite night of the whole thing."

After watching his highlight reel, Pete said of his time on Strictly: "One thing we never did is give up and one thing that I said at the beginning of this was that I was going to take this seriously but not take myself seriously, and I think that's what I tried to do throughout and I'm proud of what we did."

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
