Strictly Come Dancing's Zara McDermott has admitted she "could barely talk" after her first live show performance.

After weeks of intense rehearsals with professional partner Graziano Di Prima, the former Love Island star began her Strictly campaign on Saturday night with a cha-cha-cha, scoring 19 points from the judges.

"I am proud of myself for doing my absolute best, for going out there even though I know I have so much work to do, and being the most nervous I've ever been in my life," she wrote on Instagram afterwards, alongside an emotional video of her week one journey.

"My mouth was so dry, I could barely talk after."

Zara reflected on how proud she feels "having never danced in front of anyone before in my entire life (no exaggeration!), walking into that studio a few weeks ago with less than zero dance experience and no confidence whatsoever".

The star concluded her post by thanking her fans for the support.

"Thank you all so much again for all your kind messages," she said. "I appreciate every single one of you and I am going to keep pushing myself week on week to get better and better."

Zara was supported by her boyfriend Sam Thompson and former TOWIE star Pete Wicks on Saturday. Cheering from the sidelines, they both wore colourful custom-made shirts with Zara's face on.

The former Made in Chelsea star showed his excitement on Instagram as he queued to get into the famous Strictly ballroom to see his girlfriend perform.

"We're ready to support like we've never supported before," he shared with his followers.

Sam spoke of how "unstoppable" Zara is ahead of her first Strictly performance. "Zara's worked so hard that nothing, I don't think, will ever faze her," he told the Daily Star.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday nights on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights from September 25 on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
