Student who dumped baby in toilet bowl charged with murder

JITRA: A student of Kolej Pertanian Malaysia in Bukit Kayu Hitam, detained for dumping her newborn baby in the toilet bowl of her hostel end of last month, was charged with murder at the Magistrate's Court here today.


The accused, Nur Izzati Adi, 20, nodded when the charge was read to her before Magistrate Nur Fadrina Zulkhairi.


However, no plea was recorded from the accused, a first year student at the college.


She is charged with causing the death of her baby boy, who died by asphyxiation at the toilet at level three of the Kolej Pertanian Malaysia Bukit Kayu Hitam's hostel about 5.20pm on Mar 30.


Nur Izzati, the eldest child of four, is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.


Deputy Public Prosecutor Parihah Ab Kadir prosecuted the case while lawyer Tunku Intan Mahiya Tunku Mahamad appeared for the accused.


The court set June 7 for mention. The accused, who is still in confinement, waa sent back to the detention centre as the charge is a non-bailable offence.
