SINGAPORE — A secondary school student repeatedly recorded upskirt videos of two of his teachers in class last year, a court heard.

At the State Courts on Thursday (27 June), the culprit, now 17, was given two years’ probation.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to possession of obscene videos, insulting the modesty of women and criminal intimidation.

He cannot be named to protect the victims’ identities.

Over several occasions in February last year, the perpetrator placed his mobile phone in video recording mode on top of his school bag with the camera lens facing upwards while he was attending classes.

He would then raise his hands to ask his 47-year-old mathematics teacher some questions, and she would go over to his desk to help him.

He recorded a total of four upskirt videos of the unsuspecting victim.

Using the same modus operandi, the culprit took three upskirt videos of his 47-year-old Chinese teacher on 5 March last year.

That same day, he also took another upskirt video of the same victim by placing his phone directly underneath her dress.

On 10 August last year, the perpetrator also recorded a video of his sister’s friend showering in his home. He had set his phone in video recording mode and placed it on top of a shelf in the toilet.

The culprit also threatened to post photos of a 15-year-old student in her underwear online on 20 March 2017 unless she sent him her nude photographs. The victim made a police report.

In the early hours of 25 August last year, policemen conducted a spot check on the perpetrator at the void deck of an HDB block. They found obscene videos on his phone and arrested him.

For possession of obscene videos, the teen could have been jailed for up to three months and fined.

He could have been jailed for up to a year and fined for taking upskirt videos.

The maximum penalty for criminal intimidation is up to two years’ jail along with a fine.
