19 Aug – No jokes here, singer-actor Jared Leto is joining the upcoming sequel to the 1982 action movie, "Blade Runner".

"We are thrilled that Jared has agreed to play a key role in the "Blade Runner" sequel," said Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEO's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson in a statement.

"He is a phenomenal actor, and we know he will create a truly memorable, never before seen character."

It was, however, not revealed which character Leto will be playing.

The Academy Award-winning actor will be joining the confirmed cast that includes returning star Harrison Ford along with Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis and Dave Bautista.

Denis Villeneuve ("Sicario", "Prisoners") will be directing the sequel, set several decades after the 1982 original. Story details are still kept under wraps at the moment.

The "Blade Runner" sequel is currently slated for release in North America on 6 October 2017.

Meanwhile, Leto, who is also famously known as the 44-year-old frontman of rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, was most recently seen portraying the Joker in the deeply troubled "Suicide Squad", which has been receiving mixed reviews but, Warner Bros. Pictures revealed, it still managed to recently earn over half a billion dollars at the worldwide box office.
