ALOR SETAR: Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah has asked Muslims to get rid of any selfishness that could destroy the unification agenda that would eventually threaten the country due to people’s irresponsible actions. He said Muslims should embody the graceful aspect of ummah by having open hearts and kind thoughts. “Do realise that we don’t have any other place than this sovereign land; this (country) is where we live, our source of income and the pulse of our everyday lives.

“Thus, Muslims of all colour, backgrounds and political affiliations in the state must always respect one another,” he said in his address at the state-level 1440H Maal Hijrah celebration held at Dewan Seri Negeri, Wisma Darul Aman here on Tuesday. The Sultan’s speech text was read by the Raja Muda of Kedah Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin. Apart from lending a helping hand to one another, Sultan Sallehuddin said Muslims should also offer their assistance to members of other religions as practised by Prophet Muhammad. “Without the willingness to adopt the migration (hijrah) attitude, success and development of ummah will never be achieved. This is in line with this year’s Maal Hijrah theme, ‘Menyantuni Umat

Membawa Rahmat’ (Supporting the People Brings Blessings). Gracing the event were Tunku Bendahara of Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Abdul Hamid Thani Sultan Badlishah and Tunku Temenggong of Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah. Also present were Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and state Mufti Datuk Mohd Syeikh Fadzil Awang. At the event, Sekolah Menengah Agama Maahad Tahfiz Al-Abidin founder Zainol Abidin Sudin, 82, was named the Kedah ‘Tokoh Maal Hijrah’ recipient.
