Singapore Changi Airport's $3 surcharge increase extended to end 2022

[UPDATE 24 June 2022: The increase in surcharge will be extended until 31 December, 11.59pm]

SINGAPORE — The $3 hike in surcharge for cab rides from Changi Airport will be extended by six months until the end of the year, taxi operator Strides Taxi said on Thursday (23 June).

The subsidiary of public transport company SMRT said in a Facebook post that the increased surcharge will be in place until 31 December, 11.59pm.

ComfortDelGro Taxi, Prime Taxi and Premier Taxis announced that they would do the same on Friday.

The $3 increase, previously announced by Changi Airport in May, was originally in place from 19 May to 30 June, in a bid to ensure more taxis are available for passengers.

Trips from 5pm to 11.59pm daily will have a surcharge of $8, up from $5, while trips at all other times will have a surcharge of $6, up from $3.

Separately, Strides Taxi will be increasing its London Taxi charter rates from 1 July, 12am. Its airport arrival rate will be raised from $55 to $75, while airport departure, point-to-point and hourly charter rates will increase from $50 to $65.

In May, 2.47 million passengers passed through Changi Airport, up from the 1.93 million in the previous month and representing a more than 14-fold increase year-on-year, figures from Changi Airport Group show.

Singapore fully reopened its borders to vaccinated travellers, who will not need to be quarantined, on 1 April.
