Susanna Reid has sent get well soon wishes to her Good Morning Britain co-star Richard Madeley after the broadcaster fell ill on I'm A Celebrity and had to be rushed to hospital.

The TV star, who presents ITV's breakfast news show alongside Reid, is currently a contestant in I'm A Celebrity but needed medical attention during Wednesday night.

Reid tweeted a link to a report of the hospital dash and wrote: "Sending love - hope he’s feeling ok now. Doing brilliant job on #IACGMOOH and being supportive to everyone. Get well soon Richard."

The I'm A Celebrity official Twitter account also confirmed that Madeley had fallen ill and had to visit hospital to be checked over.

A statement read: "News from Camp: Richard was unwell in the early hours and was immediately seen by our on-site medical team. He's since been taken to hospital as a precaution, the health and safety of our campmates is our priority."

According to The Sun Madeley, 65, suddenly fell ill on Wednesday night, leaving campmates and production staff scared by the change in his health and prompting a visit to A&E - although he is said to be on the mend.

This year, campmates are competing from Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales again after coronavirus restrictions causing difficulties in travelling to the show's usual base in Australia.

Viewers had watched Madeley take on the first solo trial of the series in Wednesday's episode, a challenge called Kitchen Nightmares which saw him wading through rotten fruit and covered in critters as he searched for stars to exchange for meals for his co-stars.

He was disappointed to only win four of the 10 stars available after struggling with untying knots in a wet rope to retrieve the stars, although his campmates assured him they were pleased with how he'd done.

The episode also saw the camp merge after having been split into two groups since the series began and included Naughty Boy airing his grievances to members of the other camp as he explained how having been chosen by them to take part in a trial while feeling low had almost caused him to quit the show.

In Thursday's episode, viewers will see the camp completed by late arrival campmates Adam Woodyatt and Simon Gregson.
