Suspected 'peeping Tom' dies 12 days after assault

KAJANG: A suspected ‘peeping Tom’, who had been in a coma since August 11 after being assaulted by villagers in Kampung Orang Asli Baru, Sungai Lalang, died at 9.45am on Wednesday.

The man was beaten up by villagers after being suspected of peeping on one of the villagers.

Kajang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff, said the man died of severe head injuries.

“He was brought to the Kajang Hospital on August 11 after being assaulted, and was in a coma.

“The incident occurred when the man had entered the4 village and was suspected of peeping on a villager.

“Upon being discovered, the man tried to run away but was caught. He was then set upon by angry villagers.

“However, he died after 12 days in hospital. A post-mortem examination showed that he died of severe head injuries after being hit by a blunt object.

“He also sustained several internal injuries,” said Ahmad Dzaffir in a statement.

Ahmad Dzaffir saud police have detained a man in his 20s to assist investigations.

The suspect has been remanded until Wednesday (August 29). The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
