Suspected driver of pick-up truck who plowed into open-air diners arrested

Police have confirmed that they have made an early-morning arrest in the case of the driver who is suspected of down several restaurant patrons at a Taman Equine hawker center last night.

Testing negative for drugs, authorities are still waiting for the results that will determine in alcohol played a role in the shocking hit-and-run accident that killed one woman.

 

Social media quickly picked up on images and video of the incident, showing the driver of a Toyota Hilux driving directly into a full group of patrons in an open-air hawker center on Jalan Equine 9B at 8:15pm. After backing into the group, the driver then made a hasty exit, damaging three other vehicles as they left. Photos of shell-shocked customers show baffled and terrified faces. Authorities later found the car abandoned nearby.

     

Three individuals were injured, and a woman in her 50s killed, by the incident. They were all taken to the nearby Serdang Hospital for treatment and a postmortem.

CCTV footage allowed for police to have a clear image of the vehicle, and by 2am that same night, the suspect was arrested.
