The Sussexes’ royal duties will officially end on 31 March
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will officially step down from their roles as senior royals on 31 March, a spokesperson has confirmed.
Prince Harry and Meghan will no longer carry out duties on behalf of the Queen, however, these arrangements will be reviewed after 12 months.
The couple will return to the UK for six events in February and March, including the Commonwealth Day Service on 9 March, according to the BBC.
Harry is also expected to attend the London Marathon in April and the couple will attend the Invictus Games in May.
Earlier this year, the Sussexes announced that they would be stepping back from royal duties and that they aim to become financially independent from the monarchy.
It’s yet to be decided whether the royals can continue using the ‘Sussex Royal’ label, which will be decided by the Queen and senior officials.
Despite Prince Harry and Meghan’s efforts to trademark the brand, discussions are still ongoing.
“As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are stepping back as senior members of the royal family and will work towards financial indolence, use of the word ‘Royal’, in this context needs to be reviewed. Discussions are still ongoing,” The Telegraph reports.
“As part of the process to transition the Duke and Duchess of Sussex into their new chapter - planning has been well underway around the launch of their new non-profit organisation. Details will be shared in due course.”
Harry and Meghan aim to carry out a “progressive new role within this institution” with their decision to step down, and provide their family with “the space to focus on the next chapter.”
