Sustainable Development

11 January 2013

Stakeholders of the Malampaya Joint Venture cited yesterday the environmental value of its operations in Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas City and Subic because of the sustainable development of the local natural gas industry, which has reduced the country's dependence on imported fuel for power generation by 30 percent.

Presenting the Malampaya sustainable development policy at the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman, Quezon City, Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) Executive Director Karen Agabin said efforts are being exerted so that natural gas exploration does not harm the people and the environment.

Formed and incorporated in 2005, the MFI serves as the social arm of the Malampaya Joint Venture Partners to ''promote, foster and encourage the sustainable social, environmental and economic development in communities in the areas where the group operates.''
