Sweden celebrates World Cup berth by destroying pitch-side TV desk (video)

The big story of Monday’s scoreless draw at the San Siro is Italy, which will officially miss the World Cup for the first time in six decades.

But let’s not forget about Sweden. This TV broadcast team certainly won’t.

After the Swedes finished off their 1-0 aggregate win, the entire team swarmed over to the country’s Eurosport broadcast desk situated right by the pitch and, well, it never stood a chance:

Despite the damage, the celebration definitely seemed all in good fun. Several players took care to make sure the analysts weren’t hurt, and the tone of the tweet was congenial in nature.

Sweden has a history of producing great players, yet never rising above the fringes of greatness itself. The Blågult were runners-up at the 1958 World Cup — which they hosted and was coincidentally also the last time Italy missed out — and finished third twice. This will be the Swedes’ first trip to the World Cup since 2006, when they reached the knockout stages but bowed out in the Round of 16.

Definitely seems like something to celebrate. And celebrate they did. Just ask that desk.
